The Market concerns me for several reasons…We have a reversal day on May 22 followed by a series of lower highs and lower lows. This has put us back at resistance from the most recent breakdown on June 19-20 at the 1630-1640 level for the S&P-500, the rise on decreasing volume.
Next is the overall weakness of the economy…..My personal feeling is that beating drastically lowered expectations is not impressive. The continued lack of top line growth concerns me, and despite the subdued inflation outlook, anyone who does the grocery shopping (as I tend to do) knows that prices have grown a great deal more than what the government numbers indicate.
Add the unrest in Egypt and its effect on oil and it is easy to see how we can easily be in for another quarter or even half of under performance in equities.
All this said, it’s always important to be mindful of getting it wrong and getting in the way of the Fed…”Plan for the worst and hope for the best.”
If the dramatic miscalculation of the Chairman’s statements on tapering gets reversed all bets to the downside are off.
