We had a small loss of $70 this week

bringing the YTD performance down

to a profit of $27,158

It was a very volatile week with a big up opening on Tuesday followed by a selloff and aclose up 23 points but 100 off the highs.  Friday we closed at 14,922 closer to the highs than the lows after a midday selloff of $146 on news about Syria.  While we closed up on the week I expect resistance at the falling 50 day MA at the 15,125-15,165.

The current market shows incredible strength and a de-coupling with interest rates.  One of the problems with the better economic numbers is that it leads to the “dreaded taper.”

Gold seems to be the key indicator to what the “street” expects.  If gold can’t rally with political instability and the possibility of another Mid-east war, that speaks volumes. Clearly the market is less concerned with the rest of the world than it is on the actions of the Fed.

While I still do not believe the economic numbers tell the whole story, clearly I am in the minority.

The shift in pricing from “per pound” to metric weights that nobody can actually decipher, to the “per item” for things like tomatoes and other fruits and veggies at the supermarket give us non-comparable pricing. It’s tough to gauge inflation without a valid apples to apples comparison.

The decline in the teen apparel stocks is clearly driven by less summer earnings for those important consumers and less money free-flowing from parents.

However, as stated above, you can’t profit by jumping on the tracks in front of the freight train of the Fed rolling toward you.  I am always looking for trades at support.  Momentum is great, but it changes in a nanosecond and frankly, we got to up 271% by finding stocks that weren’t overbought.  I’m not giving up on that method.
