We had a small gain of $342 (3.42%) for what turned out to be a see-saw week.

We suffered several small losses on positions that got stopped out due to our 50% down rule.

We also had to take a gain in our GLD position after a 100% up rule followed by a gap up and the liquidation of the balance later the same day.

This was an excellent example of how a

balanced investing  trading systems that works approach

helps our performance.

The current YTD gain is just over 117%.

Trading Systems Traders Comments

From my point of view the market is showing signs of fatigue.  We have had a great move since the low in early June @ 1280 (S.& P. 500) to the close of 1411 on Friday.  Even though many stocks are still showing overall strength, September tends to be the worst month of the year for the market and I am feeling very cautious.

Friday’s reversal from the lows of the week to close at the high of the day was impressive; but I believe that a reasonable retracement of even 1/3 of the move up (35 S & P points) to 1360-1370 would be a better place to initiate new long positions.  Remember that the market always looks best at the highs and worst at the lows.  We may have a short-term oil shock during this hurricane season that might hurt this market.  We will also have plenty of news from the Euro-zone and the meeting at Jackson Hole later this week.

As for the Gold, we have had a series of very good trades within the boundaries of the trading range and while I don’t want to play it from the short side, we will stand aside and see what kind resistance develops between here and the round number $1,700.  Should we have a pullback to the $1,640-1,645 range we will be buyers again……CAM
