$10,000 Trading Account Traders Comments
We have four open long positions:
GILD February 105 Calls
NAT February 11 Calls
TBT February 43 Calls and
VJET Feb 8 Calls
Funds in Use $ 2,172
Week 3 was another strong performance with gains of $1,570 bringing our YTD total to $3,845
or over 38%. Funds in use are: $2,172 and covers 4 positions.
This is a difficult market to figure out since most of the stats are confusing. The ECB try at QE puts the US dollar at new highs and oil under pressure. So why does the dollar price for gold act so strong? While this spring and summer vacation seasons will favor the “UGLY” Americans all over the globe, multinationals will suffer pricing pressure at all those same locales. Frankly, earnings have questionable comps for the quarter. Retail has been a major disappointment. Oil and gas probably follow, even though one of our better trades this week was caused by the dividend raise for VLO. I still favor VLO as the most flexible of refiners, but the 200 day MA comes thru around $51.32 and Fridays high of $50.90 was close enough for me to book the gain.
The Mideast has some very serious decisions to make as to who is with who and against who else.
Everything from ISIS to the Israeli PM coming to Congress (remember Obama snubbed him in NY
at the UN not to long ago) to Iran / Iraq / Syria and of course Nigeria and Ebola to make us only2 minutes to midnight on the Doomsday clock…..
All of these circumstances point me in the direction of lower prices at least for the first day or two of this coming week. On top of that, the coming (literal) storm due on the east coast from sometime Monday thru Wednesday ought to create a bit of a vacuum for prices due to lack of participation.
New trades will be texted on the new service and via email (assuming I have power during the storm). I have to say, up here in the Northeast, lower heating oil prices are already making a VERY positive impact on me. Filling the tank last year cost $962, and this past week it was a well under $700.

For those of you who do not buy puts to protect your portfolio, there are many ETF’s that are the inverse of the DOW. The symbols are DOG, DXD, SDS,TZA and RWM, which go up when the DOW, S&P 500 and Russell 2000 go down and down when they go up. The DZZ goes up double when gold goes down.

The options call for a $ 2,500 investment unless otherwise stated; each stock position requires $5,000 unless otherwise specifically stated.
We are basing money management on a hypothetical
$ 100,000 and are using a total of
$74,391 for 19 open stock positions plus four option long positions requiring
$ 2,172 totalling
$ 76,563 leaving
$ 23,437.00 in cash.
These figures are approximate and there might be errors.
We have not counted the dividends received from Apple, JP Morgan, Santander, Blue Capital Reinsurance and others. We do not count commission costs and all trading once again is hypothetical.
Executions that have occurred at or near the open or close of trading sometimes vary from our actual numbers. For example, when something opens down and it is through our price, we take the next trade whether it is an uptick or continues lower. This sometimes results in a 50% trade that is slightly above or below the exact number.

Market Strategies Fundamentals
The European Central Bank came through to enact a large bond- buying program. This helped
stocks make nice gains across the board. The European Bank’s president exceeded expectations announcing the ECB will buy 60 Billion Euros ( $ 67Bln U.S. ) per month in assets including but not limited to government bonds. The unprecedented bond buying plan crushed euro-area yields as investors bought government debt ahead of purchases, all slated to begin in March.
The stage had been set for gains in U.S. equities following three consecutive weekly losses.
The Nasdaq 100 Index was the biggest beneficiary gaining 136 points or 3.28%. The Nasdaq Composite added 123 points or 2.66%. The Dow Jones Transportation Index gained 218 or 2.5%, while the Dow added 161 points or 0.92%. The Russell 2000 gained about 1%. Netflix ( NFLX: $ 437.45 ) + $ 100.11 points or 30% was by far the biggest winner. IBM ( IBM: $ 155.87 ) – 1.96 or 1.3%, on the other hand was a disappointment as fourth quarter earnings were down 4% to $ 5.54 per share compared with $ 5.76 the fourth quarter of 2013.
Italy’s 10-yr borrowing costs fell below 1.5% to 1.413% briefly, before settling at 1.53% for the first time ever while yields set new lows across the region. The Spain’s 10 yr yield fell as low as 1.249% on Friday in London. The German Bunds narrowed 4 basis points last week to 101 down as much as 650 basis points from July 2012.
The TLT, the 20-year benchmark U.S. Treasury Bond Fund was actually down slightly having closed at 134.77 down 0.14 from the previous week. However on a longer term basis the American benchmark 10 Yr Note yield is down to 1.81% from 2.8% just nine months ago. U.S. Bonds have opened at new highs Sunday evening at 1501.90, up another 24 basis points. The Greenback is at a new yearly high 95.68, up another 63 points. The big unknown is how much the strong dollar will impede exports. The Fed is set to make an announcement Wednesday on policy.

Market Strategies Economic Data
Housing is developing into needed leadership for the economy.
Single Family Construction surged, increasing by 4.4% in December to 1.089 mln from an upwardly revised 1.043 mln annualized (from 1.028 mln) in November. Single-family construction increased 7.2% in December to 728,000 from 679,000 in November. That was the largest number of single-family starts since 773,000 were started in January 2008. The difference now is that construction is recovering as opposed to dropping rapidly after the bubble burst.
Housing starts increased 8.7% to 1.006 mln in 2014, which is the most starts since 2007 when 1.355 mln were started.The NAHB Homebuilders Index has recovered following an unexpected contraction in the middle of 2014. That recovery, however, has not really translated into significant housing starts growth. Given that the increase in starts was due to the normally stable single-family sector, the improvements in sentiment may finally be translating into actual construction growth. If this is true, we would expect to see continued growth in the industry in 2015.
Multifamily construction declined 0.8% in December to 361,000 from 364,000 in November. Over the past several months, multifamily construction has followed a saw-tooth pattern. The small dip keeps multifamily construction on trends.

Last week the UDOW reversed its losing ways and had its first winning week of the year, up 3.90 points or 2.9%. It had lost 4.4% 1.6% and 3.4% the previous three weeks totaling 9.4%.
The VXX ( volatility Index ) fell 10.2% last week following three weeks of gains; 10.9% 3.2% and 9.5% titalling 23.6%. The VXX remains quite lofty and higher for the month even after a down week reflecting uncertainty and fear of the market. The SPXU fell 5.1% to 38.02 following gains of 1.29% in each of the first two weeks of the year.

Southern ITS (SITS: $ 0.08 )* Southern ITS delivers proprietary innovative electronic security systems to highly regulated market sectors. Such installations include Gaming Properties, Medical Marijuana (MMJ) dispensaries and similar businesses with high compliance mandates. Their systems go beyond simple security and are designed to support their clients in dealing with the expanding burden of compliance and financial auditing. Greeniosk is complete system that allows Medical Marijuana (MMJ) Dispensaries and Recreational Marijuana (MJ) Dispensaries to document and provide an audit and verification trail of each individual MMJ/MJ dispensary transaction.
The majority of MMJ Dispensaries have limited bank service access mainly due to requirements of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO). The Greeniosk system incorporates a large physical ATM Kiosk, with a state of the art CRM reporting system that provides a detailed financial transaction audit trail and addresses and resolves issues of the propriety of the dispensary operations. MMJ Dispensaries currently transact between $250,000 and $5,000,000 in annual revenues.
The majority consist of cash transactions, however small numbers of dispensaries accept debit card payments. Because RICO concerns cause the majority of banks to decline dispensary deposits, they also miss out on potential MMJ credit card transactions.
Market Strategies Cycles
Devised by Yale Hirsch in 1972, the January Barometer has registered eight major errors since 1950 for an 87.7% accuracy ratio. This indicator adheres to propensity that as the S&P 500 goes in January, so goes the year. Of the eight major errors Vietnam affected 1966 and 1968. 1982 saw the start of a major bull market in August. Two January rate cuts and 9/11 affected 2001.
The market in January 2003 was held down by the anticipation of military action in Iraq. The second worst bear market since 1900 ended in March of 2009 and Federal Reserve intervention influenced 2010 and 2014. Including the eight flat years yields a .754 batting average.
At the moment, the indicator is pointing negatively for 2015. The Dow needs to close above 17,823 and the S&P 500 above 2,058.90. At least Mario Draghi and his European counterparts gave the market a jolt, but it remains to be seen whether the indexes can rally above the 2014 closes. The Russell closed at 1204.70 and is just at 1188.93. The DJT closed at 9140 and is presently 8982. None of this takes into consideration the acceleration of the dollar. The strong dollar is a major headwind.
