For those of you who do not buy puts to protect your portfolio, there are many ETF’s that are the inverse of the DOW. The symbols are DOG, DXD, SDS,TZA and RWM, which go up when the DOW, S&P 500 and Russell 2000 go down and down when they go up. The DZZ goes up double when gold goes down.

Recommendations And Overall Comments
New Trades:
(1) Buy 16 HOG April 65 Puts @ $ 0.60 ( All April 19th expiration )
(2) Buy 12 TLT April 108 Calls @ $ 1.00
(3) Buy 8 MNST April 235 Calls @ $ 2.35
For the full year 2013 we had realized gains of $ 53,556.
We have open position losses of about $ 9,626.00 most of which are held over from last year.
We also have not counted dividends received on stocks like Apple, Nordic American ( NAT ) and JP Morgan.
We have one long options position:
GLD April
The Stock table has the following 18 positions:
AA(2), AAPL (2), BAC B Warrants, GRPN, GSG, HL, INSM,
NBG (2), OSIR, REPR, RPTP, SPXU, TEXQY, WLT, XRGYF
The options call for a $ 2,500 investment unless otherwise stated; each stock position requires $5,000 unless specifically stated.
We are basing money management on a hypothetical $ 100,000
and are using $ 882 in one option position and
$69,754 in 18 stock positions
totaling $ 70,636 with
$ 29,364 in cash.
These figures are approximate.
We do not count commission costs and there may be errors.
Executions that have occurred at or near the open or close of trading sometimes vary from our actual numbers. For example, when something opens down and it is through our price, we take the next trade whether it is an uptick or continues lower. This sometimes results in a 50% trade that is slightly above or below the exact number.

Trading Fundamentals
In six trading days, the first quarter of 2014 will come to a close. After its best performance in over a decade in 2013, the market has effectively gone nowhere for nearly three months. At yesterday’s close DJIA was down 1.65% year-to-date, S&P 500 was up a modest 0.98% and NASDAQ has a 2.4% gain. Whether or not the current 5-year old bull market is forming a top is still open for debate. However, what is not open for discussion is the fact that the “Best Six Months” of the year could come to an end as early as April 1.
Nasdaq’s action Friday was terrible making an outside-day-down pattern, opening at 4,339.90, making an early high at 4,344.39 and closing down to 4,276.79, well below Thursday’s low of 4,287.41. Nasdaq leads the way. The forward outlook is murky and trading has been difficult as can be seen from our performance, the worst in the last three years.

Cycles
Microsoft often makes its move late in the bull cycle. With Microsoft (MSFT) stock trading at near 52-week highs, no one is using the term “Mr. Softy” anymore to describe the company’s performance. It’s true that Microsoft is no longer the playground bully that it was in the late 1990s.
But the company is far from the pushover it resembled under Steve Ballmer. That said, although the stock is trading much better these days, Microsoft is not back to full strength.
The stock has been boosted by (surprisingly) Apple (AAPL). The word is that Microsoft new CEO Satya Nadella plans to make Microsoft Office available to Apple’s iPad next week. We see this as a good move, especially since former CEO Steve Ballmer was adamantly against the idea. The notion of putting Microsoft’s enterprise software on an iPad made Ballmer cringe. But analysts are applauding Nadella’s decision.
On the rumor of next week’s launch, Ross MacMillan of Jefferies raised his earnings estimates and price target for Microsoft. While keeping his “buy” rating on shares, MacMillan raised his price target to $47 from $42. MacMillan believes that moving Office to the world’s best-selling tablet could be bigger than originally estimated. In his research note, MacMillan said:
For the last year, after now what is a 5 year Bull Market selectivity and rotational strength has been predominant. RIGHT NOW! there is a major and very dangerous divergence.
Look at any DOW/S&P chart to observe the divergence.
Friday’s down day may prove significant in the days immediately ahead.
